Typical work hours:  40-45

 

Weekends or overtime hours:  No weekends, and some overtime – no pay

A typical day on the job:  Everyday is different.

 

Positive things about being an administrative professional in this industry:  The salary is fair, the hours are good, and most of the work is independent ( you know what needs to be done, you don’t have someone telling what to do). You have flex time, and it is interesting.

 

Negative things about being an administrative professional in this industry:  Medical language is very different and difficult to pick up without any medical training. There is not anyone else in your area and there is not a lot of friendships or bonds with people. It is very technical.

 

Type of workspace/office:  office that connects with two senior level offices

 

Primary responsibilities as an administrative professional in this position:  Keep all the doctors credentials and all licenses up to date, keep all doctors informed with information (inner office and outer office) , keep the president’s calendar and all medical cases up to date, and his correspondence, coordinate all doctors inner office correspondence

 

Top thing(s) incumbent admin would require of job applicants seeking to be her/his position replacement:  Independent, accurate, patient

 

Office machines or equipment operated regularly:  Computer (multiple software), copier, fax, blackberry

 

Technology (hard) skills used regularly:  Computer software, coordination of many doctors schedules, accurately distributing reports to the proper department

 

Critical soft skills:  Patience! (the president is very intelligent but forgets where he puts things)
