Years worked in this department:  Less than 1 year

Special training or attributes needed or helpful to get job in this industry (or specific department):  I began working for this company in the C/S department. In this roll I demonstrated a strong organizational side and attention to detail, which helped point out and correct many issues. This company never had an "admin" before and asked if I could do it because I have had experience in the position before.

Number of managers and/or staff supported:  Since I don't have an "official" job description yet, I basically report to all managers (about 12 people), and assist others within the various departments.

Typical work hours:   8-4:30

Weekends or overtime hours:  Yes, some overtime (depending on department needs) and yes, paid overtime after 40 hours)

General salary range (Note: This is a general figure or range provided by survey respondent and may NOT be an exact salary in order to give survey respondent some privacy. Also you must take into account that the number of years worked in industry/department may contribute to this salary as well as criteria such as level of position and person reports to, required hours and geographical location.):  approx. $30,000

Lingo you might hear in this industry:

CounterView (monitors mold usage by tracking activity for the life of the tool)

Side Locks (positive guidance between cavities and cores)

Taper Locks (provide alignment of cavities and cores).

A typical day on the job:  Never "typical". Since I report to several departments, every day is different dependant on which department needs me more for the day. Since I have also been cross-trained, I am also back-up to C/S and Credit & Collections.

Positive things about being an administrative professional in this industry:

Negative things about being an administrative professional in this industry:

Type of workspace/office:  I am also the receptionist, so it is all open.

Primary responsibilities as an administrative professional in this position:  Preparing the audit binder, risk management/maintenance of agreements (lease, distributor, etc), organizing corporate files (1st time this has been done for this company!), maintain corporate vehicles, meeting and travel arrangement, etc.

Office machines or equipment operated regularly:  Fax, copier, printer, scanner, phones, computer…everything!

Technology (hard) skills used regularly:  Typing, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GroupWise, Internet.

Critical soft skills:  Ability to "stop, drop and roll" (stop and drop what you're doing to take on something more critical, and roll with the punches. Why - because my functions change on a daily basis. I never know who will be directing me from day-to-day, and I have been directed to change or stop mid-stream. Also, good communication skills in order to hand off projects when it's requested that I switch priorities.

Pace of this position:  Usually fast.
