Positive things about being an administrative professional in this industry:  What I like most is there is a variety to my work days, things change regularly.

 

Negative things about being an administrative professional in this industry:  Very little respect. Very little credit. These two things make me sad as I think what I do is valuable and it is never publicly recognized. Do more for my manager, such as, process the information with new hires.

 

Type of workspace/office:  cubicle

 

Primary responsibilities as an administrative professional in this position:  Reports, time sheets (weekly), new hire signons, process emails, work with outside customers.

 

Top thing(s) incumbent admin would require of job applicants seeking to be her/his position replacement:  Flexible, good computer skills, get along well with people.

 

Office machines or equipment operated regularly:  Computer, printer, fax machine, copier.

 

Technology (hard) skills used regularly:  Word, Outlook (mail and calendar), LIS program

 

Critical soft skills:  Getting along and making friends with outside vendors. If they don’t like you they will not go the extra mile to help you. Getting along with the staff, as you need to work with them everyday and you need each other.
